Mortgage Rates: Borrowing Just Got Even Cheaper -- And Easier

Mortgage rates fell this week for the first time in a month, averaging 3.43 percent for a 30-year, fixed-rate loan, down from 3.48 percent. A year ago, rates averaged 3.91 percent, according to Freddie Mac’s weekly survey. Rates had been going up for most of July, but this week’s dramatic drop erased most of that increase. That’s good for both homebuyers and sellers.
