Wednesday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Consumer Products

In afternoon trading on Wednesday, Utilities stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.3% loss. Within that group, NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG) and Exelon (NYSE: EXC) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 6.2% and 2.1%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLU), which is down 0.4% on the day, and up 24.57% year-to-date. NRG Energy, meanwhile, is up 2.66% year-to-date, and Exelon is up 35.65% year-to-date. Combined, NRG and EXC make up approximately 7.3% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
