Monday Sector Laggards: Materials, Technology & Communications

In afternoon trading on Monday, Materials stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.6% loss. Within that group, Nabors Industries (NYSE: NBR) and Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold (NYSE: FCX) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 4.0% and 3.0%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs, one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLB), which is down 0.2% on the day, and up 6.69% year-to-date. Nabors Industries, meanwhile, is down 0.04% year-to-date, and Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold, is down 10.30% year-to-date. FCX makes up approximately 3.5% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
