Mania, Tragedy, Despair and Redemption: A Brief Convertible History of Akamai (Part 1 of 3)

February 13, 2014   |   February 2014 Bond Updates
I’ve written about how Netflix, fast becoming one of my favorite companies thanks to its original series House of Cards and a second chance to see Breaking Bad, should have issued a convertible bond to take advantage of extraordinarily favorable market conditions.  Here’s my next suggestion for Netflix:  make an original movie about repeat convertible issuer Akamai. I think Akamai’s story would mesmerize viewers. And the company might not have survived if not for the money it raised by issuing convertible bonds.  We’ll get to the history in the second installment, the history lesson, hopefully out a bit later today.  Snowstorms are good for writing, and the history of Akamai’s convertibles might give you a clue about the stock’s future. Even if it doesn’t, it’s a story I bet you’ll want to learn more about.
