Friday Sector Laggards: Energy, Financial

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Friday, shares of Energy companies are underperforming other sectors, showing a 1.1% loss. Within that group, Southwestern Energy Company (NYSE: SWN) and Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 5.9% and 4.5%, respectively. Among energy ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLE), which is down 1.1% on the day, and down 11.42% year-to-date. Southwestern Energy Company, meanwhile, is down 53.13% year-to-date, and Chesapeake Energy Corp., is down 53.55% year-to-date. Combined, SWN and CHK make up approximately 0.9% of the underlying holdings of XLE.
