On the morning of September 11, 2001, the 9:30 a.m. opening of trading on the New York Stock Exchange was delayed after American Airlines Flight 11 slammed into the north face of One World Trade Center. After United Airlines Fight 175 hit the southern face of the second tower, trading was called off and the exchange at Broad and Wall was evacuated. Trading would not resume until the following Monday, September 17, and when it did the Dow dropped 7%.
