Greek politics have once again become relevant for global markets. After a disputed election, Antonis Samaras, head of the winning New Democracy Party, has already said he was unable to form a coalition to lead the Hellenic Republic. The onus is now on the head of the far-left Syriza party, Alexis Tsipras, to from a government. Tsipras, who warned that a Greek euro exit could cause the “destruction” of the common currency, will have a hard time garnering support, raising the possibilities of new elections.
