Word today that New York State would be taking over running the finances of Nassau County, New York set off chuckles throughout the region. "Inmates running asylum?" tweeted my co-worker David Whelan, and yeah, it's tough to imagine a more ridiculous situation than having Albany come in to help you with your books, except for maybe inviting Bernie Madoff to the White House to help fix Social Security. |
